HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I said to my boss today, "Well we made it." She said "Made what?" I said, "To 2008; we made it, and we are here." She just looked at me...you know "the look". That happens a lot...I say something and people just look at me. I laugh to myself on these occasions because I know that for that small moment, I am the only one who understands me. That story has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm going to write about in today's newsletter, but I wanted to tell you anyway - so there. (Insert "the look" here).
Actually, our conversation was much more involved than that. See, today I returned from my vacation and she knew that I had planned to get my life completely organized in 11 days. (LOL - I'm ambitious). So, she asked me for a "status report" on Christmas, my Birthday, New Years, and my plan to get organized. I shared all the "warm fuzzy" moments of the holidays with her, she patiently listened, then it happened - she asked me point blank: "So did you get organized."
SIGH. I reluctantly admitted that I am only a couple of steps closer to being organized than when my vacation started. We laughed. What I did accomplish though, I learned a lesson from - and this is what I want to share with you this week. Are you ready? Here goes...
While on vacation, I successfully put together a very lovely lateral file cabinet that I purchased in late 2006 (yes I said 2006). I was not procrastinating, just waiting for the "right time" (I'm very patient). I was so proud of myself, because I put it together alone, with no help from the male species. I was extra careful to put all the parts in all the right places, use all the bolts, screws, nails, and pegs with no leftovers; and I made sure nothing was upside down or backwards. It looked beautiful.
Then - it was time to put in the drawers. It took a couple of tries, but I finally got the bottom one in. The top one, however, was not so easy. After several attempts, and a few outbursts of frustration (don't act like you've never been there before), I finally had to break down and admit that the drawer was too heavy for me to balance and slide onto the track. And so - I did what any independent American female would do. I ask my dad to help. He came in "all manly like" and with his HEAVY southern accent said "What's wrong girl, you need me to help." (Insert manly chuckle - hahaha- here) I nodded, smiling he went to work on it. And - you guessed it, he did it in under 2 minutes....after using a lot of WD-40.
As he was working on it, I sat in my chair watching and feeling defeated, then the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, "You know Krista, when you've done all you can do to make something work and it doesn't work, just ask your FATHER to help out - he can lift the heavy things for you and the anointing oil will make the rough places smooth."
Today I learned that if I can't do it by myself, then daddy and WD-40 can.
Word to the Wise: "And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing." Isaiah 10:27
